Ford F-150 Lightning and Mach-e drivers may have to wait a little longer before connecting to Tesla’s Supercharger network. After several companies had already received NACS adapters, Ford sent emails to many companies saying they would be replacing their units. In the meantime, the company does not recommend using the current version.
Ford replaces some NACS adapters due to potential issue
Last May, Ford CEO Jim Farley joined Elon Musk at X to announce a partnership that would give Ford EV drivers access to Tesla’s vast Supercharger network.
Ford was the first, and soon after, almost every major OEM revealed similar plans. Ford electric vehicle models won’t have built-in NACS ports until next year, but Ford said it will send adapters to drivers for faster access.
After opening reservations for the adapter in January, Ford initially said drivers could order the adapter through June 30th, but that deadline was moved to August 31st earlier this summer.
Now, Ford plans to replace some of the NACS adapters that have already been shipped to owners.
Several Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E drivers have received emails that read: Damage to the case and charging port. ”
The email adds, “Ford does not recommend the originally supplied adapter be used in any future vehicle. A replacement will be sent to you.”
While waiting for a replacement, Ford drivers can check FordPass and other public charging apps to find other options.
As part of the new Ford Power Promise, the company will provide new EV buyers with a free Level 2 home charger and cover standard installation costs.
Ford says its new program is designed to make the transition to electric vehicles easier than ever before, bridging the gap between perception and reality. According to Ford, most people don’t understand the real benefits of driving an EV, like waking up with a full charge every day.
