UPDATE: Fortnite’s live event was as big as expected, with the return of Pandora’s Box and an appearance by Doctor Doom. The event ended with Doctor Doom thwarting Megalodon’s plan to destroy the island. At the moment of the explosion, the Doctor Doom logo appeared where the countdown clock would be, leading to a big explosion and the return of Pandora’s Box. While it wasn’t on par with the epic events of old, it does set up nicely for the next season, which is rumored to revolve around Marvel. You can watch the full event below:
ORIGINAL: After a long time without a big finale, Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, is finally planning a season-ending event for the battle royale. With Chapter 5, Season 3, “Wrecked,” coming to an end on August 16 at 4AM BST, Epic is moving ahead with their plan by hosting the season-ending event this weekend. According to the in-game countdown timer, the Wrecked season-ending event release date is August 10, with a start time of 7PM BST. While there have been no specific leaks regarding the actual content of the event, the timing is particularly interesting, as it comes just hours before Fortnite broadcasts its upcoming Disney D23 livestream in-game. With exclusive Disney content coming to Fortnite, don’t be surprised if a crossover starts during the upcoming event.
News of the livestream was confirmed in a recent blog post from Epic Games, which read: “Celebrate the magic of D23: the ultimate Disney fan event! This year, live Fortnite/Disney announcements from Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase will be streamed exclusively on Fortnite.”
“Tune in to Disney Horizons Live on August 10 at D23 to see new Fortnite announcements live with Josh D’Amaro and special guests.”
Epic Games says that the Disney Horizons livestream at D23 will be available to watch in Fortnite from 3:30am BST on August 11, with the actual show starting an hour later at 4:30am BST.
Epic Games will be offering rewards to users who take part in the event, which will be repeated until August 16th.
“If you missed the livestream or want to watch it again, Disney Horizons Live at D23 will have a looped replay of the presentation available to watch until August 16th,” Epic explained.
“To celebrate the announcement, all players who visit the island for 10 minutes on August 16th will be rewarded with the Pyle Valin Plush Back Bling and XP.”
As for a Disney crossover, insiders like Shiina and Hypex believe Disney will have its own item shop page within Fortnite.
There are rumors that Avatars will be coming to Fortnite, along with skins and items from the Kingdom Hearts series.
This is in addition to a possible crossover with Darkwing Duck and a skin from the Gargoyles animated series.
Previously leaked X-Men skins, including Cyclops, Jubilee, and Colossus, are also reportedly set to be revealed during D23.
Of course, since this event takes place before the D23 stream, it most likely won’t have anything to do with Disney content.
The countdown timer is located in the Leviathan Pipeline, so don’t be surprised if any explosions occur.
According to Shiina, Pandora’s Box will return as part of a mini live event, so stay tuned for further updates.
