WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — A free program offering young girls the opportunity to explore careers in aviation will be hosted next month by the Connecticut chapter of the Women’s Aviation Association International (WAI).
The program will be held as part of WAI Girls in Aviation Day on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Signature Aviation’s RTFlight Hangar at Bradley International Airport, according to a spokesperson.
A spokesperson said the event, open to girls aged between eight and 17, will include “hands-on activities” and the chance to “hear inspiring talks and meet women working in the aviation and space industry,” with more than 150 chaperones expected to attend.

“We want local girls to know that there are many exciting careers available in aviation, including engineers, astronauts, aircraft mechanics, pilots, dispatchers and air traffic controllers,” said Chloe Tinius, co-chair of WAI Connecticut’s Girls in Aviation Day. “We will expose girls to role models and educate them in a fun and supportive atmosphere.”
This year’s Girls in Aviation Day marks the 10th annual Girls in Aviation Day event since it was first held in 2015. WAI chapters around the world are participating in the event with their own programs.
“The program is free for participants and their chaperones,” Tinius added. “We want to see young girls interact with positive role models and explore the aviation industry as they develop their career plans.”
Registration for children and chaperones can be done on the Eventbrite listing here.
