Gemini Live rolls out to Samsung smartphones ahead of Pixel 9 launch
Yesterday, during the launch of the Pixel 9 series, Google announced that Gemini Live, an advanced version of its Gemini AI assistant, would be available on Pixel and Samsung phones and tablets. Today, Gemini Live started rolling out to these phones and tablets, and it’s only available to those who subscribe to the paid version of Gemini.
Gemini Live lets you carry on a conversation just like any other person would. You can jump in to get more information about something or come back to it later. Gemini’s extensions (integrations) with other Google services like Calendar, Drive, Gmail, Keep, YouTube, and YouTube Music are not yet available on Gemini Live. These extensions will be available in the coming months.
When you launch Gemini Live, you’ll see a waveform badge with a little sparkly icon in the bottom right corner. Its introduction explains how to use it, and two dedicated buttons allow you to continue or end a conversation.
Gemini Live has a very clean UI, taking up the entire screen but displaying other apps in the background. Gemini Live has 10 audio options to choose from. You can toggle the “Interrupt Live Response” feature in the app’s settings. Gemini Live is only available in English, with support for other languages likely to roll out in the coming months.
For the past few years, Samsung’s homegrown AI-powered digital voice assistant Bixby hasn’t had as many new features as Apple’s Siri or Google’s Gemini. But Samsung has announced that later this year Bixby will get an LLM-powered upgrade, which will allow Bixby to better understand natural language voice commands. It’s likely to be released in the One UI 7.0 update.
