AUSTIN, Texas — The Georgia Bulldogs shook off a Week 5 loss at Alabama with dominance over Auburn State and Mississippi State. If the Bulldogs want to extend their winning streak to three games, they’ll need to take care of business on the road against the No. 1 team in the nation.
No. 5 Georgia (5-1, 3-1 SEC) and No. 1 Texas (6-0, 2-0 SEC) will face off in a showdown televised by ABC starting at 7:30 p.m. Compete against. The Bulldogs go into the game with a 41-31 win over Mississippi State, while Texas returns home with a 34-3 win over rival Oklahoma in Dallas.
Georgia had high expectations for a big win Saturday, but Mississippi State made sure to close out the contest in four quarters.
Trevor Etienne scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 3:33 left in the game, giving the home Dawgs a 41-31 victory and ending Mississippi State’s threat. It was an eventful afternoon for the home team. Georgia moved the ball well at times, but made mistakes of its own and was unable to get Mississippi State within striking distance.
Carson Beck finished the afternoon on 36-of-48 completion for 459 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Beck’s total yards were a career high in a game where Arian Smith had a career-best 134 receiving yards.
“Our offense got into a rhythm and did a really good job with our pass pro,” Kirby Smart said after the game. “Carson was in a rhythm and was great at getting them going.” “We’ve got to keep getting better at some of the things that are frustrating, 50-50 balls in the secondary. I don’t think we’ve won one. Probably 50-50 on the perimeter. It might be one ball. We’ve worked really hard on that and give them credit for that. ”
Meanwhile, Texas quickly defeated Oklahoma State on Saturday. Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and Quintrevion Wisner rushed for 118 yards and one score. The Longhorns held the Sooners to 237 yards and forced two turnovers in the blowout win.
