In retro news, I’m celebrating Pro Surfer Kelly Slater’s 22nd birthday. Growing up as a grommet in a south coast town, KSPS was a launch the size of Teahupo’o for me and my friends. We were also excited about the Oz nods like Belle and Kira, Karen and Carol, and the clever combo system for what was basically Tony Hawk’s Water Skaters. (Note: The tone can actually be unlocked via a Nokia phone cord.) That said, some may find the unrealistic physics and kickflips off-putting. We often duck dived this instead of Transworld Surf or Sunny Garcia.
