Pixel 9 smartphones have been popping up everywhere lately, except where they should be: secretly. Leaks are appearing almost daily, with the latest being a fairly detailed specs list for the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.
As we’ve heard before, the 9 series will break with tradition and launch with the current Android 14 instead of the next version, likely a side effect of the earlier launch (Pixel 8 phones were released in November). The 9 series phones will receive seven years of feature drops, just like the 8 series.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL (as well as the regular Pixel 9 and 9 Pro) will be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset paired with the Titan M2 security chip. The Pro XL will have 16GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as a base, with storage options expandable up to 1TB. The base price is $1,100. The 256GB model will cost $1,200, but pre-orders will apparently get a free storage upgrade to 512GB.
The XL phone is named after its OLED panel with a 6.8-inch display, 1,344 x 2,992 pixel resolution, and up to 3,000 nits of brightness (Note: previous leaks suggested a 6.73-inch diagonal and lower brightness). The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The punch-hole will house a 42MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens.
On the back, there will be a 50MP wide-angle camera with an f/1.68 lens, plus a 48MP 5x periscope (f/2.8) and a 48MP ultra-wide (123°, f/1.7). According to previous leaks, the main camera will be a Samsung GNK 1/1.31-inch sensor with OIS. The ultra-wide module will use a Sony IMX585 (1/2.51-inch). These two cameras will be present in all three Pixel 9 models. The telephoto module, exclusive to the Pro and Pro XL, will use the same IMX858 sensor and OIS. Google seems to like this sensor so much that it will also use it (with an AF lens) for the selfie module. Note that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will use a different camera setup.
The leak makes no mention of the charging battery, but previous leaks have detailed a 5,060mAh capacity and 45W wired charging (wireless speeds TBA).
Naturally, the phone will have Gemini AI-powered features: Pixel Studio uses AI to create images; Reimagine transforms objects in your photos into something else, as seen in the demo below of a road turning into a river; there’s also an AI-powered weather app that gives you an overview and outfit tips, and screenshot search that finds specific screenshots from your image gallery based on natural language prompts.

Finally, in case you haven’t had 24 hours to see the newly leaked images of the Pixel smartphones, here are some photos of the Pixel 9 Pro (not the XL).
