During a visit to Morobo County, Central Equatoria Governor General Augustino Jadala Wani urged the government to facilitate the integration of rebel groups into the national army under a unified command to ensure peace in the country.
General John Mabie, commander of SPLA-IO forces in Panume area of Morobo county, said in a meeting with General Jadara’s delegation over the weekend that “whatever happens” will delay the implementation of the reinvigorated peace agreement in 2018. He said it was because of the fact that He called on the government to accelerate the integration process.
“It is not good that the soldiers are not fed.The list of soldiers has been submitted to the president and the leaders have ordered to work on it with all their wits. Therefore, if the people are not fed, Dr. If you want to say the name of a soldier is missing, you should tell him. If not, you must feed his soldiers. “What does it show? It means our country is in trouble,” he said. “We are happy to have you here and there is no problem. General Werebe, please stand firm. This is what we want. We are waiting for action from you, but we are They are Sudanese children and have nowhere else to go.”
“Why have we remained in the bush for so many years without being welcomed?” asked General Mabie.
SPLA-IO Commander-in-Chief, General Wesley Werebe, also said he was pushing for rapid integration of the forces and would convey General Mabiye’s message to the leadership.
“We hope to quickly integrate forces and begin the second phase, and we hope to see all forces come together as one,” he said. “We are all one people because we all wear the same uniform with the South Sudanese flag.”
Meanwhile, Governor Jadara urged SPLA-IO forces to remain calm as complaints will be forwarded to higher authorities and bottlenecks slowing implementation of the security arrangements will be addressed. He called on the rebels to stop harassing civilians and committing crimes.
“There must be good relations between you, the SPLA-IO forces, the government here and the county commissioners of Morobo, Yi and Rainya. Do not go into matters involving civilians,” the governor said. said. “While we were traveling here, SPLA-IO soldiers were illegally cutting timber, taking Ugandans to log trees, robbing civilians of property and animals, and even setting up barricades. All this will stop as we get your message across to the leadership.”
Mr Jadala concluded his two-day visit to Morobo County on Saturday in Panyume Payam, which has long been under SPLM/A-IO control. The rebels have recently extended their territorial control to Kendira Boma in Gurumbi Payam, where they have set up barricades on the Morobo-Panyume road and restricted access to the district administration.
