Grant Ellis has been named the lead for season 29 of “The Bachelor” after Jenn Tran was dropped from season 21 of “The Bachelorette” on Monday in her lead role.
Ellis is 30 years old, lives in Houston, and is a day trader. According to ABC’s official profile for the upcoming lead character in the series, he is a “self-proclaimed mama’s guy” whose “smile and unwavering positivity instantly brighten up any room he enters. The former professional basketball player is passionate about his day trading job, but when he’s not immersed in the fast-paced world of finance, you can find him cheering on the Lakers, knocking out strikes at the bowling alley, or singing karaoke. As a single man, Ellis is eager to embark on a journey full of romance, adventure, and genuine connection. He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor, and a deep appreciation for life’s small joys.”
Ellis rose to prominence among the Bachelorette contestants in season 21, bonding with Tran throughout the group dates and cocktail parties in the first four episodes. The two had their first one-on-one date in the Week 5 episode, which aired on August 5. Over dinner, Ellis told Tran about the impact his father’s substance abuse problems had on him, and Tran spoke about her struggles with her absent father. The following night, Ellis confessed to the other contestants that she was beginning to fall in love with Tran. However, to the surprise of many fans, in Week 6, Tran sent him home rather than sending him to her hometown where he would meet the remaining contestants’ families.
Tran was a contestant on season 28 of “The Bachelor,” ABC’s hit reality dating show that aired earlier this year and starred Joey Graziadei, who is now engaged to Kelsey Anderson. Season 29 will air in 2025, along with season 10 of “Bachelor in Paradise.” This fall, ABC will premiere “The Golden Bachelorette,” a spinoff of “The Golden Bachelorette” starring 61-year-old Joan Vasos.
The Bachelor is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Claire Freeland, Bennett Graebner, Tim Warner and Peter Gast serve as executive producers.
