Knowing that someone you trust has taken credit for your hard work is a tough thing to accept, especially if it’s a family member.
So what would you do if your sister used your design to land that internship you both applied for?
In today’s story, a woman faces this exact dilemma.
Here’s what happened.
Myself (F18) and my sister (F17) recently applied for the same design intern position.
We submitted our application a few months ago, which required us to attach a portfolio of our best work.
A few weeks ago, I received my rejection letter, but my sister passed.
This came as no surprise since she has an associate degree in fashion design and I don’t have as much experience.
To be honest, I don’t really know why I applied in the first place.
There’s a good reason why her sister never showed her the design submissions.
But anyway, I was proud of her, as was the whole family, and to be honest, I didn’t really care about the job, but I was genuinely happy for her.
The other day, I used my girlfriend’s computer for some purpose and noticed a folder called “Portfolio.”
Curiosity got the better of me and I couldn’t help but take a peek. She hadn’t shown me any of her previous submissions, so I wanted to see what she had submitted.
I saw some sketches that were very similar to my design and some that were slight modifications of my design.
Herein lies the dilemma.
When I confronted her, she said she was nervous and had used my design as “inspiration.”
I haven’t told anyone about this yet. I don’t think she’s right for the internship.
I could email her boss and tell her she plagiarized, but I don’t know.
Of course, being fired before even starting an internship would hurt her resume, but surely that’s her own fault?
Wibuta?
Wow! It’s easy to see why she’s angry at her sister.
Let’s see what people on Reddit are telling her to do.
What this guy has to say is wonderful.
Or maybe this person thinks they should let it go.
According to this person, it’s up to the parents to decide.
These are great points.
This is a difficult dilemma.
While stealing is never acceptable, it’s hard to ignore how upsetting it can be for families.
