Amidst the bubble skirt craze that seems to be gripping the fashion industry, its cousin appears to be emerging in a sleeker, more structured form. Yes, at the end of fashion month, a fresh silhouette is appearing on the Spring/Summer 2025 runways in Paris: the hourglass mini dress. Although similar to the playful nature of the bubbly model, its look is decidedly more sophisticated and edgy.
Seen at numerous shows throughout the week, this dramatic silhouette took on a variety of shapes, cinching the waist and widening into a bell-like skirt. At Balmain and Mugler, for example, creative directors Olivier Rousteing and Casey Cadwalader took a harder, more angular path, respectively. The minidress featured a more geometric, boxy shape that jutted out abruptly from the hips for a more dramatic and severe effect. To further up the wow factor, Rousteing set an angular style for the facial images and stripes, all rendered by hand using pearlescent beads. Cadwaller, on the other hand, stuck to a moodier “menace” theme, featuring a black hourglass minidress with a plunging neckline perfect for a greedy Morticia Addams.

This dress has a rounder, cupcake-like finish that matches other voluminous, wind-dancing styles in the bubbly collection. . Equally more sophisticated were the cartoonish LBDs devised by Acne Studios’ Jonny Johansson. The sleeveless, fitted bodice is lavishly knotted at the top and flares out dramatically at the bottom, reaching just above the upper thighs. Although she was cheeky, she still had an innocent look that reminded me of Minnie Mouse as an adult.

This more structured, sophisticated hourglass silhouette brings even more glamor to the look. highland territory. Perfect for more formal occasions, this style is instantly elegant, especially when paired with equally sophisticated pumps or ballet flats.
There are still a few days left until the end of Paris Fashion Week, but it seems like champion trends are already emerging. It’s going to be a gentle spring.
