Green Bay Packers @ Denver Broncos
Broncos make changes to running back rotation: Denver put its running backs in a variety of situations this week, which shows the backfield is still not stable.
Last week, the Broncos used their running backs in situations that were familiar to each of them. Javonte Williams He took most of the snaps on the first two drives. Samaje Perrine Get third downs. Perine continued to get third downs after the substitutes came in and played in the two-minute drill. Perine did not get a chance to play in normal early down situations. Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime Taking over as a backup, McLaughlin played one snap on third-and-11.
Williams started again this week, with McLaughlin taking over after just a few plays. The two continued to alternate on the first two drives, with McLaughlin playing on third down and nine yards and at the goal line. McLaughlin ended up playing more snaps, which allowed Williams to leave the game first.
Perin started the third drive with a routine 10-yard first down, then Estime replaced him during the drive. Perin continued to play through the third quarter. Many have speculated that Perin may be released from the team. After Game 1, that seemed unlikely, as Perin was taking on all of his usual passing duties. It seems more likely that Perin will not remain with the team, as the Broncos now seem willing to give McLaughlin a chance in that situation.
If this backfield is just a two-man rotation of Williams and McLaughlin, both of whom have value at ADP, there’s still a chance Estime could be mixed in, but he hasn’t gotten that opportunity so far.
The Broncos’ top three wide receivers are confirmed: The Broncos’ wide receiver rotation remained largely the same as last week.
Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick Denver’s two leading wide receivers last week were Josh Reynolds He joined a three-man wide receiver set, which was a bit of a surprise considering the players the Broncos selected early in the draft. Marvin Mims Jr. and Troy Franklin In recent seasons, the Broncos have seemed to use a lot of veteran players, Jarrett Stidham And the young players Bo Nix Later in the game.
Nicks started this week and the wide receiver rotation remained the same. There was no clear fourth wide receiver. Lil Jordan Humphrey, David Sills And Mims played on the first two drives as well. Devaughn Vere He was also considered a candidate for backup receiver, I wasn’t wearing a uniform. He did not play in this match, and the reason for his absence is unclear.
Sutton still holds reasonable value in the ADP, but Patrick is becoming a clear starter and should skyrocket up the rankings.
The Packers could be left with four running backs. Emmanuel Wilson He was ejected from the game before any other Packers players.
Wilson was the Packers’ receiving back last season and filled in when either of their top two running backs were injured. He had a great performance last week, rushing for 67 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Some suggestions Wilson should be on the roster this season and get playing time on offense.
The Packers rested their top three running backs and made Wilson the starter for this game. Wilson didn’t perform as well this week as the Packers’ reserves played against the Broncos’ starters, but he was a focal point of the offense, running eight times and catching passes in the first half alone. Wilson would likely only make the roster if a running back is injured or there are concerns another team will sign him to the active roster, meaning Wilson can’t go on the practice squad.
Miscellaneous
• Lukas Krull He had more practice with the Broncos starters this week. Greg Dulcich The number of plays has decreasedThis seems like a three-man rotation that should be completely avoided in all formats.
• Packers It was announced before the match The following players will not play: Quarterback Jordan Loverunning back Josh Jacobs, AJ Dillon, Marshawn Lloyd and Jerveon Howards, wide receiver Christian Watson, Romeo Dube, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks Tight End Luke Musgrave and Tucker Craft.
• Samori Touré He’s been the Packers’ top backup in recent years, but he wasn’t among the top three wide receivers in this game and was ranked eighth in the depth chart, so it seems unlikely he’ll make the roster at this point.
New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers
Taysom Hill on the Saints offensive line: Hill was lined up all over the field, playing 14 of the 22 snaps.
Hill played tight end six times, halfback four times, fullback four times and slot receiver once. He didn’t play halfback at all last week, but did play outside wide receiver. The Saints are missing some of their top skill players, but Hill will clearly be a key member of their offense.
Hill finished last season as the 12th overall TE, and the year before that as the 9th TE. It initially seemed like a bit of a risk with the new offensive coordinator, but if anything, the new staff seems more open to using Hill in their offense. Assuming Hill qualifies as a tight end on your draft site, if you’re looking for a backup fantasy tight end or if you waited too long to draft, Hill is one of the best options you can draft.
Ronnie Bell and Danny Gray are on the roster bubble: Bell was the Niners’ fifth-best WR in their depth chart last season, but he may not make the 53-man roster this season.
The 49ers have been without their top four wide receivers for the past two weeks, with Bell starting in their first preseason game. Chris ConleyTrent Taylor will play as the third receiver. Fourth-round rookie Jacob Cowing He didn’t play in that game, but started in place of Bell this week. Bell played his first snap in the second quarter, but the other players who started that game ( Brock Purdy) Bell missed the game, suggesting he is at best eighth on the depth chart and off the roster.
Gray is a third-round draft pick in 2022 but has just one reception in his career. He sat out last week and this was his first time getting snaps behind Bell, so he should be considered ninth in the pecking order. As such, his time on the 49ers’ active roster appears to be coming to an end.

Table Notes
• Snaps include plays that are called off due to penalties such as offensive holding or defensive pass interference. These plays are excluded from the other three statistics.
• Targets may differ from official NFL sources. The most likely discrepancy is when a pass is clearly wasted, in which case the NFL would likely award the target to the nearest receiver, which is not the case in this data.
• Carries are made on scheduled plays only. Quarterback scrambles do not count towards the total number of carries in a game.
