Jana Kramer opens up about her experiences with and without premarital sex.
On the September 25 episode of I Do Part 2 starring Jennie Garth, Amy Robach and TJ Holmes, the One Tree Hill alum revealed that she lost half of her money during her divorce from ex Mike Caussin. He revealed on the spot that he lost his wife because he didn’t have premarital sex.
“My last marriage to my husband of almost seven years, he didn’t let me sign a prenuptial agreement,” said Kramer, 40. “For me, it was, ‘This is mine forever, and we’re getting married.'”
She added: “During our first affair, when he was in rehab, I made him sign a marriage license. But it didn’t hold up in court.”
When Kramer was going through the divorce process, her lawyer told her that the marriage “wouldn’t be as successful” as it was before the marriage. At that point, she decided to create a spreadsheet of what she thought was fair. But he was ready to fight it.
“I made most of the money in that relationship,” she said, later stating that she also pays him child support.
When Kramer became engaged to her current husband, Alan Russell, her lawyer brought her in to meet to discuss a prenup, saying it was like “getting health insurance.” Still, it was a “really difficult conversation.”
“He’s the love of my life, so I don’t want to have sex before marriage,” she explained. “Having said that, I realized on the flip side that I lost almost half of my money in my last divorce. Money that I had worked hard to earn.”
When she told Russell about it, he said, “If you want me to sign it, I’ll sign it.”

“I won’t say what the final decision actually was, but it was a really difficult conversation for me,” she concluded.
Kramer filed for divorce from Kosan, 37, in 2021, citing infidelity and inappropriate marital behavior. They welcomed daughter Jolie Rae in January 2016 and son Jace Joseph in November 2018.
Since their divorce was finalized in 2021, the former couple have spoken out about their journey to co-parenting.
“We do a really good job and I’m really proud of the way we co-parent,” Kramer told PEOPLE in 2023. We were able to put our problems aside and come together for the sake of our children. Because after all, children are the most important thing to us. ”
Kramer released his latest single “Warrior” on September 13, and told PEOPLE that he wrote the song for Russell.
Kramer, who welcomed son Roman with Russell in November 2023, said, “I wrote him a song that basically says, ‘Thank you for being the most amazing man and for coming into my life.’ I wanted to write,” he said. He calls me a little warrior, but I just kept seeing the title ‘warrior’. ”
She added: “I was in a crisis situation for many years and now I’m happy and in love with life and it’s such a beautiful place.”
