Through the first three quarters of his debut, Daniels has completed 10 of 17 passes (58.8%) for 106 yards and was Washington’s leading rusher for 72 yards and a score on 11 attempts.
The touchdown cut Tampa Bay’s 16-point lead to nine going into the fourth quarter, which was both impactful and monumental for one of the league’s young players and the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

If all goes well, this will be the first of many touchdowns for the Capitals’ quarterback of the future, whether passing or rushing.
The Commanders signed Sam Hartman from the practice squad and placed Marcus Mariota on injured reserve.
The Washington Commanders have placed Marcus Mariota on injured reserve and signed Sam Hartman from the practice squad, the team announced.
Mariota has been bothering an upper-body injury and missed his second consecutive practice on Friday, giving Washington’s Hartman a chance to play in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last month, Hartman injured his shoulder before Washington’s second preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 17. He was waived on Aug. 27 and re-signed to the team’s practice squad the next day.
Both players will serve as backups to new starter Jayden Daniels, who the Commanders selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in April, and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner has high expectations going up against the Louisiana State University product.
Now, following this move, Hartman will be behind him when his turn is called.
Along with Hartman, the Commanders also promoted linebacker Nick Beller and defensive back Sheldon Day from the practice squad.
