Sleeves? Rolled up. Size? Oversized. Shoulder pads? Really big.
It’s that time of the year again. As summer draws to a close and the nights get a little chilly, we’re all reaching for our trusty transitional pieces to keep us warm. And when it comes to transitional outfits, nothing is more classic than the blazer. Every year, new blazer trends emerge, including oversized blazers, cropped blazers, and cape blazers. The one blazer style you can’t go wrong with? The good old 1980s blazer with shoulder pads. Out and about in Miami, Florida last night, Jessica Alba shared her reasons for bringing back the classic blazer.
The actor’s timeless outfit consisted of loose-fitting, high-waisted midi blue jeans, a tight, square-necked white tank top, and chunky-heeled black boots. However, the star of the outfit was the vibrant white blazer. The oversized, double-breasted blazer, with its pronounced shoulder pads and rolled-up sleeves, was a perfect ’80s throwback. Alba added color to the outfit by carrying a burgundy Chanel Classic 11.12 Flap Bag on the strap. She accessorized her hair in sleek, loose waves with a stacked gold necklace and oversized gold hoop earrings.
Other celebrities have also been rocking retro, oversized blazers in recent months: Blake Lively wore a huge white blazer (featuring floral embroidery, of course) during the press tour for It Ends With Us, Jennifer Lopez recently wore a giant white blazer with subtle cutouts on the arms, and Sydney Sweeney upped the ante by pairing a sparkly oversized blazer with teeny shorts.
In fact, Alba has worn a few blazers herself over the past few months: In June, she paired an oversized gray blazer with high-waisted Bermuda shorts and a crop top, and earlier that month, she stepped out in the exact same blazer and jeans, but instead paired it with white sneakers for a more casual daytime look.
