On the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris brought the crowd to its feet, but one surprise guest never showed up.
Jon Stewart was hosting “The Daily Show” in Chicago on Thursday for a special live broadcast after the Democratic National Convention, where he acknowledged speculation that Beyoncé would perform in front of a crowd and the awkwardness of her absence.
“There was a lot of anticipation going into tonight, and not just with Kamala Harris. There was a lot of speculation that we might have a surprise guest, and that’s exactly what happened,” Stewart said, alongside a video introduction from Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan.

“I’m in the Slot Hive,” Stewart joked after singing Beyoncé’s “Freedom.” “People thought it was Beyoncé because they thought Beyoncé was going to be there, but it was Slotkin’ all along. People knew it.”
Afterwards, as the crowd cheered for Harris, Stewart joked, “She’s not here. No Beyoncé. No Kamala.”
The fourth and final night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, hosted by Kerry Washington, featured The Chicks, who sang the national anthem, and Pink, who performed her 2017 single “What About Us” with her and Carey Hart’s 13-year-old daughter, Willow Sage.
The evening comes after Deadline reported that there had been futile speculation that Taylor Swift would attend, with a DNC source saying her presence “would overshadow everything.”
The final night of speaking engagements at the Democratic National Convention culminated with Vice President Harris appearing together virtually from a campaign rally in Milwaukee after she and running mate Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, accepted the Democratic nomination during a roll call on Day 2.
