Sean “Diddy” Combs scored a small victory in court after a judge slammed a federal officer suspected of leaking information in a sex trafficking case.
Diddy’s lawyer cited the words of a federal law enforcement official involved in the investigation, in which the Post detailed the embattled musician’s depraved “freak-off” allegations and called the orgy “terrible.” In response to the citation, he asked federal authorities to issue a gag order.
In response, Manhattan federal judge Arun Subramanian late Friday ordered federal prosecutors and other law enforcement officials in charge of the case to request grand jury information and the possibility of affecting a fair trial. issued a warning to comply with existing laws prohibiting the release of certain and other non-public information.
“If an investigator involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case had made such a statement, it would clearly be inappropriate,” Subramanian wrote.
“To be clear, this order is not based on any finding that there has ever been any wrongdoing. The court has not made any decisions at this time regarding (Didi’s) claims that information related to the case was leaked.” Subramanian added.
“The purpose of this order is to ensure that nothing in the future occurs that would impede a fair trial.”
He added: “The court will take appropriate action for violations of the rules.”
Earlier this month, Diddy’s lawyers filed a hearing in the case after Homeland Security officials allegedly leaked damning footage of Diddy punching his ex-girlfriend, Kathy Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016. requested a meeting.
The hearing, which is still pending, seeks to bar federal authorities from inappropriately sharing additional information about criminal cases with the press.
Combs faces racketeering and sex trafficking charges for allegedly running his record label, Bad Boys Records, like a “criminal enterprise” for more than a decade.
The rapper, who is currently incarcerated at a federal detention center in Brooklyn, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Diddy’s legal team and an SDNY spokesperson declined to comment.
