Justin Timberlake’s drinking buddy reportedly returned to the scene of the singer’s arrest last month after he was arrested for drunk driving and offered to drive her home in a rented car.
The 43-year-old “Sexy Back” singer, who is currently in the middle of a world tour, was pulled over in the Hamptons last month after running a stop sign and drifting out of his lane.
According to court documents, Timberlake was pulled over just after midnight on June 18 in Sag Harbor, Long Island, and charged with DUI, running a stop sign and failing to maintain his lane.
According to TMZ’s sources, after Timberlake was taken to jail, the unnamed woman who was allegedly drinking with Timberlake that night drove a rental car to her property despite being intoxicated herself.
The woman reportedly asked the arresting officer, “Are you going to arrest Justin Timberlake?”
She then offered to drive the singer to her house and let him stay the night to sober up.
But the officers refused to let Timberlake go.
Instead, the woman asked police if she could drive Timberlake’s rental car home, in case the singer went to jail, the outlet reported.
The officer allowed her to drive the car even though she had been drinking.
TMZ reports that the pop star’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., who is seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed, plans to argue that two young officers were wrong to let the woman drive away after she had had a few drinks.
The media outlet reported that Burke plans to make the argument to a judge as part of a motion to have the lawsuit dismissed.
Update on Justin Timberlake’s DUI arrest
The Washington Post has reached out to Timberlake’s representatives and legal team for comment.
Burke Jr. claimed last week that Timberlake was not intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
“Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated and we are confident that the charges — the criminal charges — will be dismissed,” the pop star’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., told reporters after the trial on Friday.
Timberlake did not attend the ceremony as he was scheduled to perform two concerts in Poland as part of his world tour last week.
