Kalyan Banerjee breaks glass bottle during argument
Kalyan Banerjee was injured when she broke a glass bottle during an argument with former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Ganguly. Banerjee received four stitches on her hand.
Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee was injured on Tuesday when he broke a glass water bottle during an altercation with Abhijit Ganguly, a former Calcutta High Court judge and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP.
According to details, a heated exchange took place between the two sides during a joint committee meeting on the Wakf Bill.
Banerjee broke a water bottle on the table and injured her thumb and index finger. He also tried to throw it at the Chairman’s desk.
Shortly after, Banerjee was rushed to the hospital and received four stitches on her hand.
Banerjee has been suspended for one day and two seats under Sections 261 and 374(1)(2) of the Parliament Act for her comments against Chairperson Jagdambika Pal and for throwing a broken bottle at the Speaker. I received it.
The motion moved by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey to suspend Banerjee received nine votes in favor and eight votes against.
Voting was held in the same manner, with the BJP in the lead. The NDA got nine votes and the Opposition got eight votes.
Later, a video shared by news agency PTI shows Banerjee being attacked in a meeting room by All India Majlis-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh. The moment he was taken back was shown.
TMC members were also provided with soup by related parties.
Another image showed fragments of a broken bottle.
The committee, chaired by the BJP’s Jagdambika Pal, was listening to a group of former judges and lawyers when opposition members asked what their stake was in the bill.
BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said it was absolutely shameful to see a sitting MP like Kalyan Banerjee resorting to such “violent” acts.
“His behavior of cutting himself with a glass bottle in a fit of rage during a debate about Abhijit Ganguly, a respected former Calcutta High Court judge and current member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is completely unacceptable. Such unbridled aggression sets a dangerous precedent, especially for someone in a public office who is supposed to be an example of calm and responsibility. Can we expect order? This is another reflection of the deeply ingrained parliamentary culture and impunity under the Mamata government. The people of Bengal deserve better than a political party whose representatives behave recklessly. You deserve it,” she said in a post to X.
