Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife BM Parvati has decided to return the controversial 14 plots of land allotted to her by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). She said, “A husband’s honor and dignity are far more important than wealth and property.”
The prime minister’s wife spoke out on the issue for the first time. In a letter to the MUDA chief, she explained that 14 plots of various sizes in Vijayanagar Phase 3 and 4 in Mysuru would be returned. These were given as compensation for 3 acres and 16 guntas of Kesare village (Survey No. 464). It had been trespassed.
“There is nothing more important than the honor and dignity of my husband. I have never wanted anything from a family that has been in power for so many years,” Parvati wrote, adding that she acted on her own accord. revealed that. She added that she did not consult her husband, Chief Minister, MLA son Yashindra Siddaramaiah or anyone in her family before taking this decision.
In her letter to MUDA, she said: “I wish to cancel the 14 deeds of conspiracy executed in my favor by MUDA and surrender and return the compensation conspiracy. I also hand over ownership of the land to MUDA. Please take necessary measures as soon as possible.”
Highlighting her husband’s unblemished political career spanning four decades, Parvati described her as a man of unwavering ethics who treats his principles as a solemn oath. She said she was always behind the scenes to ensure his reputation was never tarnished by her actions.
“I have never wished for a house, property, money, wealth etc. I am overwhelmed by the love and support people have shown my husband, but the MUDA land allotment which is a gift from my brother “I was deeply hurt by the allegations regarding the land,” she wrote, adding that she never imagined her husband would face unwarranted accusations against the property.
Parvati, who Siddaramaiah often mentioned, had always been a very low-profile person. She has distanced herself from public life and has not appeared at personal or political events. Siddaramaiah himself once commented that despite being twice sworn in as Prime Minister, he had never attended a swearing-in ceremony.
In the MUDA land allotment case, it is alleged that Siddaramaiah’s wife in a posh area of Mule was given a compensatory land with a higher property value than the location of the land ‘acquired’ by MUDA.
The BJP has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter. On September 28, a petition was filed in the Karnataka High Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged scam involving MUDA and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
However, the Karnataka government has decided to withdraw its general consent for the CBI to investigate cases in the state amid the MUDA land allocation controversy.
This was seen as an attempt by the Congress government to evade a CBI probe into the alleged fraud involving Siddaramaiah. Following this setback, Snehamai Krishna, one of the petitioners in the MUDA case, filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate.
