Bharatiya Janata Party (BRS) standing president KT Rama Rao on Thursday took issue with the words used by MP Dhanam Nagendar against BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut and questioned the silence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.
Rama Rao said the “vulgar language” used by Nagender was unacceptable.
He said no political goal should blur the lines of respect for women.
“I may not agree with her views or her party’s ideals but the level of debate should not sink so low. It is surprising that Congress leaders in Delhi and here in Telangana have chosen to remain silent on the matter,” the BRS leader posted on social media platform ‘X’.
“Does this reflect their approval of this filth?” he asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“Recall that when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made disparaging remarks about your mother Shri Sonia Gandhi, it was KCR Garu who first stood up and summarily condemned the remarks before your party workers in Telangana, including the current Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, could react,” Rama Rao alias KTR wrote.
“We value ethics and decency above all else. Heinous crimes like rape, murder and making derogatory remarks against women are heinous crimes. We urge you to set higher standards within the party and inculcate values that our party members seem to have forgotten. Respect for women is not a matter of political leanings but of decency,” he added.
Nagendar, who switched from BRS to the Congress in March, made his remarks against Kangana Ranaut during the protest on Wednesday.
The Indian National Congress organised protests across the state against objectionable remarks allegedly made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Dhanam Nagender was speaking at a protest at Gandhi Bhawan and demanded that the government take action against those who issued assassination threats against Rahul Gandhi.
The former minister slammed Kangana Ranaut’s verbal attack on Rahul Gandhi and made inappropriate comments.
