According to Sankei, the Lacoste x One Piece collection is made entirely in Japan, and model, actress, and dancer Anna Ishii, who serves as an ambassador for the project, commented, “My parents were big One Piece fans, so I’ve been reading One Piece since I was old enough to understand. One of the reasons I wanted to enter the entertainment industry was because I dreamed of one day working in a job related to One Piece, so I’m really happy to have been given this opportunity.”
One Piece is no stranger to clothing collaborations with big international names, having worked with leading esports company Cloud9 to sell merchandise at a pop-up event in California last year. Prior to this, the brand collaborated with Uniqlo for One Piece Film: Red in 2022, and is collaborating again for the anime’s 25th anniversary this year. Mackenyu, who plays Zoro in the franchise’s popular Netflix live-action series, released exclusive One Piece merchandise through his own INCRM brand in early 2024. An international release date for the new Lacoste clothing collection has yet to be announced, but worldwide distribution has been confirmed.
