The trailer for the upcoming film Absolution has been released. Absolution is a crime thriller starring Liam Neeson as an aging gangster who longs to reunite with his children and right the wrongs of the past, but is still drawn into a life of crime. The film is written by Tony Gayton and directed by Hans Petter Moland. In addition to Neeson, Absolution’s main cast includes Ron Perlman, Frankie Shaw, Daniel Diemer, Yolonda Roth, Omar Mustafa Ghonim and William Cifarras.
Now, Samuel Goldwyn Films has released the trailer for Absolution.
The trailer begins with Neeson’s character visiting a doctor for a headache. After the doctor asks him if he’s ever had a concussion in his life, the scene cuts to an action sequence in which the protagonist engages in a brutal fight with another character. As the Absolution trailer progresses, more personal details are revealed about the protagonist’s life, including that he has an estranged daughter and grandchildren. Neeson tries to move away from the negative aspects of gang life, but still gets caught up in the violence.
What the Absolution movie trailer reveals
There’s a family element to Absolute
A line in the Absolution trailer seems to sum up the lead character arc perfectly: “The only way for me to do the right thing is to do the wrong thing.” From what we can glimpse in the trailer, this appears to ring true. The lead character may be trying to move on from the nefarious gang activities of his youth, but he’s also a man who is willing to take violent measures to protect people, and who even resorts to violence in smaller disputes like bar fights.
One of the most fascinating elements of Absolution’s trailer is the family element it depicts. The protagonist has clearly been separated from his daughter and grandson for years, but the grandson accompanies him on his journey. As he takes his grandson along, he warns him not to follow the same violent path as him. Neeson excels in family-centric action movies, as evidenced by the Taken series, so this element would be a good fit for Absolution.
Liam Neeson is quietly having a great year
He also starred in “The Nation of Sinners.”
I hope Absolution is a success, as it will make up for another underrated gem from the actor. In March 2024, the Irish film A Land of Saints and Sinners will be released, which will see Neeson return in the lead role. Despite being fairly well-received, A Land of Saints and Sinners did not make much of a dent in the global box office, earning just over $3 million. Absolution could be Neeson’s chance to show off another great performance in a more high-profile film.
