Lizzo has been working to get her mental health back on track, with the four-time Grammy Award winner recently revealing that she’s taking some time off to stay calm.
The rapper’s admission comes amid his ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit, which a judge ruled earlier this year could proceed.
Last year, she was accused of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment by former backup dancers Ariana Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez.
Lizzo shows off her incredible weight loss and says she wants to “keep the peace”
Amid an ongoing unresolved sexual harassment case, rapper Lizzo has announced that she will be “taking a gap year.” Lizzo shared the news on Instagram, adding that she plans to “protect my peace of mind.”
While she didn’t provide any further explanation in her post, it can be assumed that fans won’t be hearing any music or shows from her during this extended absence.
Along with the announcement, the rapper, who has been working on losing weight, also posted a video of himself wearing a skin-tight black one-piece swimsuit.
In the video, she can be seen walking barefoot onto the wooden balcony of a room in what appears to be a resort in Bali.
The rain seemed to be falling heavily, but Lizzo didn’t seem to mind. She looked very relaxed as she stood with her hands on the balcony railing. At one point, she even raised her arms and let the raindrops fall gently on her body.
Fans react to Lizzo’s announcement
Lizzo’s announcement was met with a variety of comments from fans about the changes she’s undergone.
“I don’t care what anyone says, Lizzo was beautiful at weight but now she’s lost the weight and the haters are her biggest fans. You hate because it’s not real,” one fan commented.
Another wrote: “After all the time criticising her weight, soon everyone will be telling her how amazing she looks and how healthy she is.”
A third pal pointed out: “You’ve changed so much! You’ve worked so hard and it’s paid off!”
However, a fourth user requested “2 year old Lizzo,” writing, “(Damn) my girl is skinny. I’m not in the mood. Give me Lizzo from 2 years ago. You’re still sexy but I can adjust.”
Other fans wished her the best of luck as she goes ahead with her gap year, which her video suggests will involve a lot of travel.
One person wrote: “You deserve it. Enjoy! Ignore those who don’t bring you joy because I believe many are trying to drag others down to the same miserable level as themselves. Be strong and lots of peace and joy to you always.”
A second user commented: “First and foremost keep your peace. I love you,” while another added: “Take care of yourself.”
Lizzo previously lost a petition to have a sexual harassment lawsuit dismissed
Lizzo’s announcement comes months after a court ruled that a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her by three former backup dancers could proceed.
The singer and her lawyers had sought to have the lawsuit dismissed, using California’s anti-SLAPP lawsuit law, arguing that a disgruntled employee was trying to “silence” her.
According to the SFBAR, the statute allows “defendants to dismiss potentially frivolous causes of action and obtain mandatory litigation cost awards early in the litigation.”
But presiding Judge Mark H. Epstein opted to dismiss some of the claims before ruling that the rest of the case could move forward.
“It is dangerous for courts to clumsily intervene in constitutionally protected conduct,” Epstein wrote in his 34-page ruling to Billboard, “but it is equally dangerous to turn a blind eye to allegations of discrimination or other misconduct simply because they occur in speech-related settings.”
Regarding Lizzo’s sexual harassment case
Part of the allegations against Lizzo were that during a visit to a strip club in Amsterdam while on tour in late February 2023, she forced dancers to engage in sexually derogatory acts with nude performers.
The “Rumours” singer also allegedly encouraged participants to “catch a dildo that was fired from a performer’s vagina and eat a banana that was protruding from a performer’s vagina.”
Other allegations include religious harassment, disability discrimination, racism and a hostile work environment.
Two of the dancers, Davis and Williams, had been fired prior to filing the lawsuit in August of that year, while her backup dancer, Rodriguez, also voluntarily left work with the female rapper.
Lizzo denies all allegations
Despite a flurry of accusations from internet users of her terrible attitude towards her peers, Lizzo continues to maintain her innocence amid the accusations.
At one point, she called the allegations “false,” “unbelievable” and “too egregious.”
She also claimed that former employees have “already publicly acknowledged that their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”
