Controversial self-styled political leader Bolgadda Anil Kumar, who claimed to be the working president of the Republican Party of India in Andhra Pradesh, was arrested by the Guntur police late on Wednesday night.
Known for his loud personality and inflammatory remarks against Telugu Desam Party leader and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and Jana Sena Party leader Pawan Kalyan, he was arrested at his home in Guntur. He was arrested by Pattavipuram police.
The arrest is said to be based on a complaint filed by Kallapudi Babu Prakash, who claims that Bolgadda demanded Rs 5 million from him and threatened to kill him if he did not give the money. He is currently being interrogated at Pattavipuram police station.
Even though Bolgadda was the so-called working president of the Indian Republican Party (in fact, the Indian Republican Party had made it clear that it had nothing to do with him), YSR Congress Party leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s fervor He was a great supporter.
At one stage, he even announced that he would not hesitate to eliminate Naidu, Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan with Jagan’s permission.
In the past, Bolgadda, along with former Tirumala chief priest AV Ramana Dikshitulu, had alleged in a public meeting that Naidu had stolen Lord Venkateshwara’s pink diamond.
Bolgadda had been on the run ever since the TDP returned to power in June this year. Within a few days, some miscreants doused the furniture with gasoline and set fire to the Bolgadda camp office in Guntur.
This was the second time miscreants had set fire to his office. It was also burnt down by miscreants in February 2023.
There were reports that he went to Bengaluru and then to Hyderabad but was unable to contact the police. On Wednesday, the police came to know that he had come to Guntur and arrested him.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the man at his home where he was staying discreetly on suspicion of continuing illegal activities.
Authorities are currently considering more serious charges that could be related to a plot to assassinate a prominent politician.
