Life for student-athletes has changed forever since the NCAA adopted its new NIL (name, image and likeness) policy in 2021. After decades of pressure, some of the best athletes in college sports were finally able to sign lucrative NIL contracts.
Many big brands, including Nike, Cash App, and Celsius, offer NIL contracts to college and high school athletes. One school that has benefited greatly from the NIL era is LSU.
The university was featured in several magazines at the height of the NIL boom, thanks in large part to the university’s athletes, such as gymnast Livi Dunn and current WNBA star Angel Reese, who had huge followings on social media. The meteoric rise to fame of LSU athletes and the impact NIL has had on college sports in general is the focus of Prime Video’s new documentary series, “The Money Game.”
