Adrian da Maia, Courrèges’ president and CEO, will step down from the brand on November 4, to be succeeded by Marie Leblanc. Artemis, the holding company of the Pinault family that controls Kering and took full control of Courrèges in 2018, announced the switch on Monday.
This is the latest executive change in a dizzying number of changes in executives and creative directors across the industry. LeBlanc most recently served as Victoria Beckham’s CEO, but resigned earlier this month.
“Marie’s unique talent lies in her ability to fully immerse herself in the creative process and develop operational strategies that support and enhance this creative vision, while always being consistent with the brand identity. is necessary to continue our growth trajectory,” François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering and Artemis, said in a statement. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Adrian da Maia, who has skillfully led the relaunch of Courrèges since 2020 and has positioned the brand well for a new and successful chapter in its history.”
“The great work of our artistic direction over the past four years has established a strong creative vision and injected new energy into the brand. Courrèges is a clear brand that combines rigor and movement, perfect cuts and high standards. It embodies purpose and has the opportunity to connect with a diverse customer base,” LeBlanc said.
Founded in 1961 by André Courrèges and his wife Coqueline, the traditional house had been in a state of instability for many years, but Da Maia led a remarkable turnaround during his tenure. After joining the brand in March 2020, one of his first moves was to appoint Belgian designer Nicola Di Felice as artistic director in September of the same year. Under this partnership, Courrèges regained momentum by focusing on younger customers. The conceptual fashion show has been well received. Courrèges, which does not share revenue, reported triple-digit growth each year from 2021 to 2022 and was on track to double its business in 2023. Artemis said Da Maia now plans to pursue entrepreneurial projects.
Leblanc joins Courrèges with a track record of driving growth at Victoria Beckham over the past five years. As reported, Chairman Ralph Toledano will serve as interim CEO until a successor is named.
