The official title of Marvel’s upcoming film “Fantastic Four” has been announced.
During Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, the film’s title was announced as Fantastic Four: The First Step, and Michael Giacchino, who won an Oscar for his work on Up, was announced as the film’s composer.
Set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct the latest installment of the classic Marvel team-up that originated in the 1961 comics. The film also stars Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachalak (The Thing).
Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the team is now available to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Earlier this week, Pascal shared the first cast photo of the stars of the new Fantastic Four movie, captioning it, “Our first mission.”
John Malkovich and Paul Walter Hauser are also set to star in the film, which is being written by Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, with WandaVision’s Peter Cameron also penning the script.
The Fantastic Four was adapted into a film in 2005 by director Tim Story, starring Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis, after an unreleased film produced by Roger Corman in the 1990s. The film was a commercial success and spawned a sequel in 2007, but was poorly received by critics, with a rating of 28 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The team was subsequently reunited for a 2015 feature film directed by Josh Trank, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. The film was not as successful as the 2005 film, performing poorly at the box office and receiving only a 9 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.
