If this is what it looks like to be, in JD Vance’s words, a “miserable childless cat-loving woman,” then I am one of them.
Tory Burch has added to the cat debate with a new feline-inspired collection starring self-proclaimed cat lover Maude Apatow. Titled Animal House, the limited-edition capsule features many of the New York brand’s most distinctive pieces, such as the Kira shoulder bag and Miller T-strap sandals, but instead is printed with the famous 1996 black-and-white photograph “Cats” by German portrait photographer Walter Schels.
“There’s a human element to Walter’s photography, the way he sees animals and the way they see him,” Tory Burch told Highsnobiety about Scheels’ work. “He treats animals with the same respect he does people, highlighting their unique personalities and emotions.”
The campaign images, which feature Apatow and her cat, Dolly, were shot by photographer Ellen Fedors. “The hardest part was keeping Dolly (the general store cat) and Lucy apart,” Maude told Highsnobiety about shooting the campaign. “They kept wanting to be together, but Dolly was at work!”
“Animal House” is part of Tory Burch’s Resort 2024 collection, which includes best-selling bags and shoes as well as summer swimwear, sandals, clogs and dresses.
The entire collection is available to shop on Tory Burch’s website starting today, but New Yorkers can check out the limited-edition pieces in person: The brand will host a pop-up store at its SoHo location from August 16-18, where visitors can shop the collection and then stop by Casa Magazines next door, where the campaign was shot.
