Duchess Meghan continues to set fashion trends on the third day of her visit to Colombia with Prince Harry.
Today, the couple visited Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, a local music school in Cartagena that teaches young people traditional African drumming techniques. They met with the school’s founder, Rafael Ramos, and participated in a drumming lesson and performance with students (the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also did a little dancing). Afterwards, Meghan and Harry spoke with students, parents, and fellow community members about the importance of programs like the school’s that help preserve Cartagena’s Afro-Colombian culture and roots, especially as gentrification continues to rise in the city.
During the visit, Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez said Meghan and Harry were public figures using their voices and platforms to speak out against injustice. “The Duke and Duchess have come to Colombia… This is Colombia. This is the land of our ancestors and our ancestral roots,” Vice President Marquez said. “We cannot drive out a community like this.”
For the lively event, Meghan shone in a Joanna Ortiz set that included a black camisole and loose black pants with a unique striped rope pattern. She completed the look with her signature accessories, including tan Aquazzura sandals and a Cartier Juste un Clou collar necklace.
Meanwhile, Harry, the Duke of Sussex, wore a blue shirt by Luca Faroni, paired with beige trousers by Banana Republic and suede shoes by John Vavart.
Meghan and Harry arrived in Colombia earlier this week at the invitation of Marquez, and the four-day trip – their first official joint visit to the country – has taken them to the capital, Bogota, before continuing on to Cali.
“In these vibrant locations, they will have the extraordinary opportunity to engage with leaders, young people and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress,” Márquez said in an earlier statement. “In addition to these meaningful interactions, the Duke and Duchess will experience Colombia’s rich traditions.”
The visit will be the Duke and Duchess’ third international trip this year, following visits to Canada in February and Nigeria in May.
