ANN ARBOR, MI – A new program between Washtenaw Community College (WCC) and Michigan Works!Southeast (MWSE) is promoting careers in emerging mobility fields.
MWSE’s “Power UP” Your Future program is helping Southeast Michigan build the skilled workforce needed for high-demand jobs in the mobility industry. “Power UP” Your Future can provide up to $5,000 in training and education to qualified job seekers through career advice, tuition assistance, support services, and apprenticeships in EV and mobility occupations. MWSE also works directly with corporations and startups to develop the skills of current employees in the EV and mobility industry.
As the state moves forward with its electric vehicle and mobility ecosystem, WCC launched two new EV programs this semester. The university currently offers certificates in EV Service Technician (22 credits) and EV Fundamentals and Safety (10 credits), as well as a specialization in EVs within an associate degree in transportation technology. Additionally, WCC is building an EV lab and significantly expanding its EV fleet to include Mach-S, Ford Lightning, Tesla, and more.
In addition to WCC’s new EV certificate, the college offers multiple programs leading to careers in mobility, including automotive cybersecurity, pre-engineering, information technology, mechatronics, and skilled trades.
For in-district students, WCC’s tuition of $99 per credit hour is among the lowest in the state.
In addition to providing job training and career advice to job seekers, MWSE works with employers to assess their talent needs and help job seekers begin their mobility careers. The Power UP Your Future program is supported through federal, state, and local funding sources.
To be eligible to participate in MWSE’s “Power UP” Your Future program, participants must be 17 years of age or older, not enrolled in post-secondary education, be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, and be registered in the U.S. There is a need.
