Slovak label Nehera celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this month with its first runway show as an outdoor event around a renovated fountain on Freedom Square in Bratislava. It was the perfect setting for the brand’s collection, which was inspired by the aging brutalist water features of its largely run-down hometown.
It’s a study in materials and water-like effects, with concrete cracks inspiring the print on Apronmile’s white linen twill strap dress and the motif on its maxi shirt dress.
Patchworks of different fabrics on lightweight suits and pleated, cinch-waisted dresses alternated like architectural mood boards and light effects on water.
This season’s Nehera silhouette was worn close to the body. Some tailored pieces are made from transparent fabric with a slight sheen, allowing the striped lining to show through. That motif was recreated in multicolored knitted pieces with delicate vertical ribs that resemble water features flowing around the body in shades of blue and white.
The layering of different textures adds interest to Nehera’s signature minimalist yet artfully executed silhouettes. A fluffy miniskirt in crinkled poplin looks like a floating rain cloud, styled as a peplum over tailored trousers, and worn over a ribbed sweater with a matching top to create a look of pale stone. It gave the impression of water flowing over the top.
Lightweight outerwear options in keeping with the theme include loose-fitting coats in steel blue or beige wool, linen, and silk blends and raw-cut washed denim ponchos.
