Today at gamescom Opening Night Live, to close out the ceremony, the fourth Mafia game, Mafia: The Old Country, was officially announced, set to release in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
The game is set in Sicily in the 1900s, but not much else is known – more details are likely to be revealed at The Game Awards in December.

“Uncover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: The Old Country, a raw gangster story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily,” the trailer’s YouTube description reads. “Fight for survival in this dangerous and unforgiving era, as the action comes to life with the authentic realism and rich storytelling that have defined the critically acclaimed Mafia series.”
This was a huge and unexpected announcement to close out Gamescom Opening Night Live, and while a new Mafia game has been hinted at in the past, this is the first time The Old Country has been officially announced.
2K Games launched the Mafia series in 2002 and released Mafia II in 2010 and the most recent mainline Mafia game, Mafia III, in 2016. Mafia III was also the first game developed by 2K’s Hangar 13, and the company also developed Mafia: Definitive Edition, a remake of the first Mafia game, in 2020.
Hangar 13 general manager Roman Hladík and head of production and media director Tomáš Hřebíček previously confirmed that the studio was working on a “brand new Mafia project” in 2022, with Hladík saying at the time, “It’s still a few years away, so we can’t say anything at this point, but we’re really excited to continue working on this beloved franchise and entertain players with new stories.”
Of course, we’ll have to wait for more information, but any details revealed will no doubt spark a lot of speculation among fans. In the meantime, check out our roundup of everything announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
