A well-known New Orleans DJ is accused of spreading more than just music across the city. Police reports have been filed and countless women are hoping to formally accuse the DJ of knowingly infecting them with HIV. WDSU’s Shay O’Connor spoke with several women from the New Orleans area. Some did not want to go public with their stories. All said they contracted HIV from the same man. Their lives have been changed forever. “It feels so malicious. You’re doing it on purpose. You have the choice to make this information public and you choose not to,” one victim said. Several women who did not want their identities to be known said they were infected. One victim told WDSU she was in a serious relationship with the popular DJ. The two even became engaged. WDSU chose not to name the man. “In 2022, rumors were flying around. I didn’t want to believe it. In 2023, I was able to confirm it from him.” Another alleged victim said she had a one-night stand with the same DJ, who was said to have been a former Marine. She said she learned she was HIV positive a few months later. Now, her typical day involves taking at least four different medications to prevent the virus from progressing. Victim 2 said, “I think it’s a mental issue. It made it worse. But I’ve got it under control with the medication.” WDSU obtained documents from the New Orleans Police Department detailing encounters the women said they had with the DJ. The DJ faces charges not only in Louisiana, but in other states, including Maryland and Texas. “It’s disheartening because so many women have confirmed that they have HIV. They’re confiding in them in private,” one of the victims said. These women encourage others to get tested and be careful. “I have a daughter in college and they say he’s been hitting on women her age – her generation. I don’t want him to ruin her generation. He’s been doing this for over 20 years and shows no signs of stopping. At some point, it has to end.” WDSU attempted to contact the DJ. NOPD confirmed the report but has not made any arrests. In our state, it is illegal for someone who knows their HIV positive status to knowingly transmit the virus to another person without disclosing that information. It can carry up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
