Onvo plans to open its first 100+ stores across 55 cities on September 1 as the official launch of its first model, the L60, draws near.
Nio’s (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo opened its first store on September 1 and is close to releasing its first model, the L60.
Onvo announced today that on September 1st, over 100 Onvo stores will open across 55 cities in China on the same day.
“The first stores across the country will open on September 1st, so come try out the Onvo L60,” the poster reads.
Nio officially launched its Onvo brand, a sub-brand with the internal code name Alps that targets the mass market, on May 15. The electric vehicle (EV) maker also has a sub-brand with the internal code name Firefly that targets the lower-priced market.
The Onvo L60 debuted on May 15 and is available for pre-order at a pre-sale price of 219,900 RMB ($30,840) including the battery, which is exactly 30,000 RMB less than the current starting price of the Tesla Model Y in China.
Onvo plans to further lower the barrier to purchase by allowing customers to buy the L60 by itself and lease the battery, similar to the Nio brand.
The model will be officially launched in late September, with deliveries to begin at the end of September, about a week after the launch, Ombo President Ai Tietchen said in a live video broadcast on July 25.
The first production Onvo L60 rolled off the assembly line at NIO’s F2 factory in Xinyuan District, Hefei, Anhui Province on August 15, with Ai handing the vehicle over to Xia Qinghua, head of Onvo’s user and service operations.
The same day Xia receives the L60, he will begin a planned 36-day test drive, covering 20,000 km in China.
The Onvo L60 is built on a 900V high-voltage architecture, and the higher the voltage, the more energy efficient it is.
According to Ombo, the model has a CLTC efficiency of 92.3 percent, a Cd value of 0.229 – the world’s lowest wind resistance among mass-produced SUVs – and consumes just 12.1 kWh of power per 100 kilometers.
The standard range version of this model is powered by a BYD-sourced 60.6 kWh battery and has a CLTC range of 555 kilometers, while the long-range version has a CLTC range of more than 730 kilometers.
The Onvo L60 is a mid-size SUV with length, width and height of 4,828mm, 1,930mm and 1,616mm respectively and a wheelbase of 2,950mm.
By comparison, the Tesla Model Y’s length, width and height are 4,750mm, 1,921mm and 1,624mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,890mm.
