MUMBAI: Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar on Friday left a cabinet meeting early on Thursday to attend a farmers’ event in Latur and said there was no friction between him and CM Eknath Shinde or anyone from the Mahayuti. . Meanwhile, Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi grilled the state government over the issue, while Leader of Opposition in Assembly Vijay Wadetiwar said efforts were being made to sideline Ajit Pawar.
TOI had reported on Thursday that Pawar left the cabinet meeting early and 38 decisions were taken thereafter. Senior officials present said Pawar, who holds the finance portfolio, was missing when a decision with major financial implications was taken.
“Due to the late start of the cabinet meeting, I had to leave for a pre-scheduled meeting. The cabinet meeting was scheduled to start at 11am but started late. Then I had to take a helicopter to Ahmadpur to attend a farmers’ meeting. There I informed CM Eknath Shinde and DCM Fadnavis and left,” said Ajit Pawar. he said.
Wadetiwar said, “It has come to light that there are always disputes in cabinet meetings, but these disputes are not in the interest of the nation but for personal gain. Even when there is no money in the coffers, 80 decisions are taken. Mr. Ajit Pawar tried to discipline the finance department. Recently, the fiscal discipline is being undermined. That is why Mr. Ajit Pawar is leaving the state in dire poverty. That might be the reason.”
Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said the situation in Mahayuti was by no means all smooth sailing. “An illegal government was formed just to defeat the Sena and the NCP. Now that the CM has direct access to Amit Shah, no one cares about Devendra Fadnavis,” Raut said. .
The state has faced criticism for its pre-election policymaking, including the Ladki Bahin scheme, which cost Rs 96,000 crore. Expenditure for Ladki Bahin scheme alone is expected to be Rs 46,000 billion annually.
