When we first came across this listing in late July 2024, the car had a list price of $27,900. At the time, we compared that to the MSRP of the new 2025 Ford Mustang EcoBoost of $31,920. The most affordable V8-engine model, the regular GT Fastback, starts at $45,460 including delivery.
So how much do you think this 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is worth today? $25,900. That’s $2,000 less than before, so it’s not a huge discount, but it should be enough to attract interested car enthusiasts. That’s about the same price as a new Ford Maverick unibody pickup, excluding delivery charges and dealer marks.
The odometer still shows 26,703 miles (42,974 km), and this old car appears to have not been moved in the last few weeks. The car is finished in gloss orange paint, with a sprinkling of chrome accents, and five-spoke wheels. The cockpit is primarily black with metal and wood trim. The seller says it also has power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.

This Ford Galaxie was available from 1964 to 1968, and the Blue Oval was available with inline-six and V8 engines. Luckily, this car is powered by a 390 ci eight-cylinder engine. The 6.4-liter motor has an Edelbrock carburetor and intake and works with an automatic transmission. It comes with factory disc front brakes, and the overall appearance and low mileage suggest it has been restored or thoroughly maintained over the years.
Of course, you could get a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL for less than the car in the pictures. At the same time, there may be more expensive cars looking for a new home on the used car market. This car sits somewhere in between and, in our opinion, is an interesting proposition given the aforementioned asking price. Would you pay nearly $26,000 for it? Probably, if you really want it, but maybe not until you see it in person.
So, if you have a budget of around $26,000 and want to buy a vintage car with a Ford signature, would this 1968 Galaxie 500 XL be at the top of your list, or would you choose another car?
