Onitsuka Tiger continues to grow, and what better place to celebrate its joys and reflect on its struggles than as it celebrates its 75th anniversary on the runway at Milan Fashion Week.
As the brand continues to grow, establish itself and make an impact in the world of high fashion, its latest genderless, genre-blurring endeavor, “Urban Moves,” documents all the intricacies of that growth and distills it into a 50-look collection journey.
“The pace and rhythm of the collection are attuned to any metropolis, fuelled by the inner flames of youthful ambition and desire,” the collection notes explain. “Inspired by young people on a journey of exploration to the pulse of global cities, the collection presents a raw and honest portrayal of growing up, where vulnerability and strength, intimacy and self-expression coexist.”
The showcase begins with an assortment of all-black outfits, including lace looks, pleated pants and shorts, oversized blazers, and collared jackets. Color is introduced by the 14th look, and an adolescent sentiment is reflected in the collection’s aesthetic composition. Texture also begins to stand out, appearing in the form of jeweled details on dresses and holographic fringe on tops.
This was followed by a selection of sleek white looks, including collared shirts, tuxedo vests and more structured jackets, again aiming to “highlight the conflicts and contradictions of youth by transforming everyday fashion tropes into symbols of progress and edgy belonging.” A set of nude-toned garments finished the presentation, including skin dresses, draped tops and stockings, made in collaboration with Wolford.
