What would be on Oprah Winfrey’s list of favorites for spring 2025? Perhaps the 13 looks from Sally LaPointe’s latest collection, which features Winfrey as its muse and face.
To close out New York Fashion Week with a bang, the New York designer unveiled its “Lapointe Spring 25: The Muse” collection lookbook on Thursday. Each custom look was modeled by Winfrey and photographed by Ruben Afanador. The collection will be available for pre-order on the brand’s e-commerce site starting Thursday.
“I decided not to do a runway. I wanted it to look completely different, and I was like, ‘I need Oprah,'” LaPointe said at a preview appointment, adding that Winfrey has worn LaPointe dresses regularly in recent years, including wearing a custom navy suit with feather embellishments to Adele’s “One Night Only” concert in 2021.
“I flew out to her house and gave her a fitting,” Lapointe recalled. “Afterwards, she asked me if I wanted to have a snack on the terrace. She asked me how I got started in my career, and I said, ‘Well, you know, I’m a young, self-taught, female entrepreneur, so there have definitely been challenges.’ I remember her sitting down and saying, ‘The power of never giving up,’ and that stuck with me.”
Lapointe said that this sentiment gave her the courage to ask Winfrey to be a part of her spring collection a few months ago: Who better to model empowering fashion than the icon herself?
“The main reason I said yes was the warmth and openness that Sally displayed when we first met. She is a powerful woman who empowers other women through her work, artistry and clothing, and I wanted to support that,” Winfrey said in a statement.
The idea of never giving up and staying true to yourself was also the basis of Lapointe’s spring collection, which focused on exaggerated versions of the brand’s signature pieces, such as a hand-applied feather cape cascading with hand-dyed ombré feathers flowing from yellow to haute (a new technique also seen in the pink hue of a floor-length gown), a midi skirt with dazzling hand embroidery and sequin fringe, and a net cape top adorned with playful and glamorous micro paillettes, all paired with Winfrey’s new stone denim jeans. Denim, a strength of Lapointe’s collection, was also cut into a hybrid tailored jacket with a long, sheer white organza hem.
“Winfrey, at the end of the day, is the epitome of who I see women to be, so choosing her wasn’t a sudden decision. She’s the definition of a strong woman and likes style that’s on point, but not over the top. It was a seamless, easy fit,” Lapointe said of her muse and the lineup, which is full of easy-to-wear, flattering and confident fashion designed by women to empower all women.
