Apple is expected to launch the M4 MacBook Pro by the end of this month, and supply chain reports seem to confirm this.
Revenue and shipment reports from three Mac suppliers suggest that production is well underway as Apple is stockpiling machines in preparation for launch.
Expected schedule for M4 Mac
Apple currently appears to be on a yearly upgrade cycle for its Macs, with the M3 MacBook Pro and iMac models announced at its “Scary Fast” event last October.
Bloomberg’s Mark Garman reported in the summer that the expected release schedule for the M4 Mac was as follows:
MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini “later this year” MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro in 2025
Garman has since narrowed this down to an October launch, with the machine set to go on sale on November 1st.
It’s worth noting that he was wrong on one point. He expected an Apple event to be held this month that would include the iPad mini 7. Instead, the company announced the new iPad mini in a press release.
It’s unclear at this point if there will be an event in October, or if there will simply be a press release for the M4 Mac. However, this doesn’t necessarily preclude a Mac-specific event, as the iPad mini update is fairly small and a low-key announcement is appropriate.
M4 MacBook Pro production report
Digitimes reports that Compaq, a major Mac assembler, significantly ramped up production in September, coinciding with preparing inventory for an October or November launch. This was supported by two Mac component suppliers reporting increased revenue last month as well.
Apple is expected to announce a new MacBook Pro model equipped with the latest M4 chip in October, which could increase shipments of related parts. This trend is evident in the September earnings reports of component manufacturers such as Jarllytec and Shin Zu Shing. Quanta’s September notebook shipments also increased to 4.9 million units, reflecting a 13% increase from August.
I think you probably already know the specs.
There is growing evidence that the alleged M4 MacBook Pro box leak and subsequent unboxing video are genuine.
I was a little hesitant to see the old wallpaper on the box, but it turns out this also applies to the iPad mini 7, effectively removing one cause for doubt.
We said at the time that the specs were reliable, so now you may know exactly what to expect.
10-core CPU, 10-core GPU (up from 8-core CPU in M3) 16 GB RAM (up from 8 GB) 512 GB storage 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports (up from 2 in base model)
