There have been countless rumors about Red Dead Redemption coming to PC, but an official announcement may finally be on the horizon. Chief free-spotter Wario64 noticed the following description on the PlayStation Store page:
Experience the epic Western adventure that defined a generation for the first time on PC.
When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down the criminal gang he once called his friends. Experience Marston’s journey across the vast landscapes of the American West and Mexico as he fights to leave his bloody past behind in this critically acclaimed predecessor to the 2018 smash hit Red Dead Redemption 2. Also includes the iconic horror story, Undead Nightmare, which transforms the world of Red Dead Redemption into a post-apocalyptic race for survival against hordes of zombies.
Red Dead Redemption features the complete single-player experience of both games, including bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition, and features all of the upgrades from the 2023 console versions, plus PC-specific enhancements such as increased resolution and frame rate, support for multiple displays and other accessories, and spatial surround sound.
Oddly, the product page lists PlayStation 4 as the platform and August 17, 2023 as the release date, which is actually the date the game was released on PS4. Still, the description leaves a lot of room for interpretation: Red Dead Redemption will probably be coming to PC soon.
Unfortunately, this seems to be just a port rather than a major remaster. Not only is Rockstar not using RDR2’s engine, but the list includes enhancements for higher resolutions and frame rates, as well as multiple displays only. It’s certainly a bit disappointing, as such a great game would have needed significant revisions before being exposed to a new, larger audience, such as the PC gaming community. Still, beggars can’t be choosers, and modders could potentially enhance this game in a variety of ways.
