Press release from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — On August 12, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a grand larceny was reported from a property in Crockett County.
The department’s Criminal Investigation Division worked with the property owner to determine that Steven Barker, 62, was the perpetrator of the crime. Investigators determined that Barker had been watching the property the previous night, waiting for everyone to leave. Just minutes after everyone had left, Barker entered the property and stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
It was further determined that Barker was observed on a hidden camera as he was leaving the residence. He destroyed the camera and threw it in the water. The camera was recovered from the water and the video evidence remained on the memory card, which led to his arrest.
“The investigation revealed that Mr. Barker has a lengthy criminal history for various property crimes and investigators immediately responded to his Dyersburg home and arrested him just hours after receiving the tip. The Dyersburg Police Department assisted in the recovery of the stolen items and Mr. Barker is currently being held in the Crockett County Jail pending his appearance before a judge.
Charges include theft over $10,000, vandalism, larceny and tampering with evidence, and other charges may be filed as the investigation is ongoing.
These positive outcomes were achieved through citizens, sheriffs, and investigators working together to bring criminals to justice.
The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct, but are not evidence. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted according to due process of law.
