Apple is set to unveil its latest iPhone series and other product updates at its Apple event on Monday.
The September event, which will have the tagline “It’s Glowtime”, is rumoured to revolve around the Silicon Valley giant’s flagship mobile phone products, which may be upgraded to support artificial intelligence features and improve the phone’s cameras.
Apple watchers suggest that the Apple Watch and Airpods are also due for upgrades.
Apple’s event starts at 1pm EDT/10am PDT on Monday and will be streamed on the company’s website and YouTube channel.
Here’s what’s rumored to be announced at Apple’s ‘It’s Glowtime’ event
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
The big news to be announced by Apple on Monday is the new iPhone 16 series.
The major upgrade rumored to be coming to the iPhone 16 is the new A18 chip with 8GB of RAM, which will enable support for Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence software.
9to5Mac reported in March that the new chip is designed to support on-device artificial intelligence.
According to MacRumors, the new model will reportedly add an action button, replacing the iPhone 15’s mute toggle previously built into the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
The iPhone 16’s cameras will likely switch from the diagonal arrangement seen on the iPhone 15 to the vertical layout seen on the previous generation Pro models, a change that’s likely to be made to support spatial video recording, according to 9to5Mac.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted on social media site X that the company will release the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 plus in black, green, pink, blue and white.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
The premium iPhone is expected to feature a larger screen and a solution to the previous model’s thermal management issues.
MacRumors reports that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will have displays measuring 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, which is 0.2 inches larger than the comparable iPhone 15 models. The site suggests that the smartphones will be slightly larger than their predecessors.
9to5Mac reports that the iPhone 16 Pro could feature the same 5x zoom tetraprism camera currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which could be the first to allow the model to record video at 120fps in 4K resolution.
The top tier could add a “capture button” that can launch and control the phone’s camera. 9to5Mac reported that the button could be present on all models, while MacRumors suggested that it could be a feature exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max.
A leaked photo posted to X by Apple watcher Kozo Ito in November showed a prototype battery case that could be used for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max to prevent the overheating issues that plagued the iPhone 15 Pro. The case would use a metal cover instead of tin.
Kuo predicted that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be available in black, white, silver, gray, and rose.
Airpods 4
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in November that the company was planning major changes to its wireless earbuds lineup, and 9to5Mac suggested that the results of those changes would be announced as soon as Monday.
The company will discontinue production of the Airpods 2 and Airpods 3 and will roll out its entry-level and mid-level wearable products under the Airpods 4 brand name.
The entry-level Airpods will likely not have noise cancellation, but the mid-level version will, and 9to5Mac reports that the Airpods Pro will remain unchanged until 2025.
Apple Watch
All of Apple’s watch products are due to be upgraded on Monday.
Series 10
The company is set to unveil the Apple Watch Series 10. According to 9to5Mac, notable changes include larger case sizes to 45mm and 49mm, as well as larger screens.
Southeast
Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that the latest Apple Watch SE may swap out its aluminum case for one made of “hard plastic,” after the company changed the case back of its entry-level smartwatch from ceramic to a nylon composite in 2022.
Ultra 3
Rumours about the Ultra 3 are few and far between, but 9to5Mac suggests that the watch could feature a new chip but won’t see any hardware updates.
iOS 18 update schedule
USA TODAY previously reported that the event was likely to announce the iOS 18 release schedule.
The operating system was unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with Apple indicating that the system will have Apple Intelligence integrated into it.
