Daniels continues, “I wanted to find a way to tell the story in a way that would allow the audience to empathize with these people, these characters, and fear for them when the horror strikes.”

The director was equally candid when confessing why Close was the perfect fit for Alberta, telling Bloody Disgusting, “I just wanted to work with her. I think she can do anything.”
Of course, the movie belongs to Andra Day, the star of the film, a desperate mother battling her own demons long before the biblical devil appeared. This speaks to Lee Daniels’ unwavering faith and determination to ward off any bad omens on set, so much so that the filmmaker even called an apostle to the set every day.
