Segway ZT3 Pro Electric Scooter Review: A pro-grade scooter that anyone can pick up and ride.

The Segway ZT3 Pro is one of the most interesting scooters I’ve tested. Although it looks fast and bulky at first glance, it is very docile and relatively easy to carry. Don’t get me wrong. Although the scooter can increase speed, the ride is incredibly smooth. It’s like an upgraded last mile scooter without the discomfort that scooters often have. Segways also have features that make your daily commute more peaceful.

Let’s start with the design. Assembly is easy, just attach the handlebar using the 4 hex screws using the included hex wrench. The deck is wide enough to comfortably fit my size 12 feet. The ZT3 Pro boasts 6 inches of ground clearance thanks to 11-inch tubeless all-terrain tires and front and rear suspension, making the transition between on-road and off-road riding easy. The front suspension has a short stroke, so don’t be too aggressive. The ZT3 Pro has a weather-resistant frame made of carbon steel.

This scooter features dual mechanical disc brakes for increased stopping power. I’m not a fan of mechanical brakes, but they require more maintenance than expensive hydraulic brakes. Segway has definitely made the choice to keep this model affordable. The scooter has a front light and a rear light, and the light closer to the deck can be customized. Higher light improves visibility in traffic jams.

BMS 2.0 (Battery Management System) provides 10 layers of charging protection, and Flash Charge technology delivers 10.2 miles of range in just 30 minutes and a full charge in 4 hours. This means it is safe to bring indoors.

This scooter features a beautiful 3-inch hexagonal color LCD display that shows important information such as your current speed, bar battery level, and Bluetooth connectivity. Visible even under sunlight. Increases stability when attached to wide handlebars. Although the scooter feels light while riding, it remains stable and does not wobble even on uneven surfaces at top speeds.

For security, the vehicle includes Apple Find My functionality and Air Lock, which requires the Segway mobile app. Bluetooth connectivity locks and unlocks your scooter when in range. By default, the scooter operates in kickstart mode. In this mode, the rider must kick off before the motor engages. This feature can be disabled, allowing the rider to simply press the thumb throttle to launch. However, as an additional safety measure, when the scooter is in non-kickstart mode, it automatically goes into “park” and the rider must squeeze the brake lever before starting off with the throttle. There’s also a traction control system to prevent slipping on wet roads, which can be enabled or disabled in the app.

The ZT3 Pro includes kinetic energy regeneration, a feature I’ve only used in electric cars. This activates when you release the throttle and creates a set amount of resistance that transfers energy back to the battery. For example, when descending a steep hill, instead of wearing out your brake pads, you can adjust the “Energy Recovery” setting in the Segway app to Standard, Low, or completely disabled. Enabling this feature may reduce speed, but is beneficial for downhill driving.

The ZT3 Pro features an integrated non-auto-cancelling signal light that is visible from both the front and rear. However, when folded, the light sticks out a little. This is to be expected since it needs to be visible from the rear and is useless if the rider gets in the way.

As mentioned before, although the Segway looks bulky, it doesn’t weigh much, at just over 65 pounds, so you can manage to carry it around.

Range on the ZT3 Pro is estimated at over 40 miles in Eco mode and 18 miles in Sport mode, but this always varies depending on rider size, terrain, and wind. This scooter supports a payload of 265 pounds and reaches a top speed of 25 miles per hour. This is the perfect speed for urban commuting.

Who is this scooter suitable for? Should you consider buying one? With its sporty look, the ZT3 Pro is perfect for everyday use. Its sturdy construction allows it to accommodate larger riders, but it can also be enjoyed by young people like my teenage son. With a pre-order price of $949, ​​it’s hard to find a scooter that can match its features and comfort in this price range.
