Donald Trump Jr. can’t even dress properly like his father, Vivek Ramaswamy needs to move away from the Donald Duck motif, and even a $15,000 watch can’t save Rep. Michael Waltz from his own sartorial choices.
That’s according to a new analysis from the Republican National Convention.
Menswear writer Derek Guy on Friday slammed several prominent Republican lawmakers in a Politico analysis of the best- and worst-dressed men at the convention nominating former President Donald Trump, with his eldest son taking the brunt of the criticism.
“Trump Jr. didn’t even get the basics right,” Guy writes. “Donald Trump Jr. dressed somewhat like his father — a dark blue suit, white semi-spread-collar shirt and shiny bright red tie — but he got the key elements wrong.”
Guy said Trump Jr.’s decision to pair his auburn shoes with a “shrimp tempura” alligator strap was simply wrong.
“Make sure your belt colour matches your shoes,” Guy explains, “otherwise the belt will create a distracting line that draws the viewer’s eye down and splits your body in half.”
Remember, Junior.

Senator Walz (R-FL) was reprimanded by Guy for pairing a Batman Rolex with a business suit, calling it “questionable taste.”
“When the collar of my suit jacket sticks out, I wonder if some of that money should go to a tailor,” Guy joked.
Ramaswamy received praise from Guy for transcending previous waterfowl-themed fashion choices from Disney cartoons.
“For the past year or so, Vivek Ramaswami has been stomping around the campaign trail in navy suits and bright orange-brown shoes that made him look vaguely like Donald Duck,” says Guy. “Thankfully, Ramaswami was right to wear more conservative, classy black shoes this week, and he should continue to do so.”
The menswear writer offered a subtle critique of Sen. J.D. Vance’s (R-Ohio) MAGA overhaul: “If J.D. Vance has stylists, they should give them a raise,” Guy wrote.
Guy also couldn’t resist the temptation to criticize Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).
Unlike his ex Kevin McCarthy, who described the smooth-faced firebrand as looking like an “AI-enabled inflatable sex doll,” he continued his criticism of the outfit.
Like Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Guy relied on a startling image to do it: West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s bulldog, Baby Dog.
“Baby Dog stole the show…no one could compete,” Guy wrote. “Gates, for example, looked like he was attending a funeral in his shrunken black suit and black tie.”
