Clogs might be one of the most polarizing yet enduring shoe styles on the planet. Championed by stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele Bündchen, and Reese Witherspoon, they’re sure to make a comeback this fall. Whatever your opinion, the clog trend is exploding this season, with designers like Louis Vuitton, Chloe, and Isabel Marant introducing their own versions of the wooden-soled shoe.
Personally, I understand why SJP has been fully supporting the clog movement for decades. Clog styles are comfortable, pair just as well with skirts and dresses as they are with jeans or other trousers, and most styles have a chunky sole that flatters your feet. With temperatures plummeting and fall foliage in full swing, I’ve been shopping the trend for a cozy shearling-lined twist. If you’re truly looking to “eat and leave no crumbs” (as my 8-year-old daughter would say), check out my favorite lined clogs from Ugg, Sezane, and more below.
Editors’ favorite shearling-lined sandals
Beaked Woodpecker Shearling
Beak
For 2023, I picked up a pair of Beek’s Woodpecker Shearling clogs, which I recently pulled from my closet and have been wearing on repeat for the second year in a row. With a luxe vegetable-tanned leather upper with hand-nailed bronze details and a shearling-lined insole, these styles keep your feet warm and fluffy. I also love the 3-inch heel, which is just the right height to pair with a variety of pant styles, including cropped, cuffed, and even extra-long flares. This year, the sustainability-focused brand has gone all-in on shearling, designing an entire collection of comfy sandals, slides, and clogs that take comfort to new extremes, including a Woodpecker version with a completely fluffy upper.
Free People Oak Cozy Clog Mules
Free spirit
Free People’s Oak Cozy Clog Mules feature a shearling lining, suede upper, and stud detailing, making them similar to my favorite Beek style, but with a platform and lower heel, it’s a more casual alternative. And at under $200, you can’t go wrong. They come in two colors, vintage tan and, my personal favorite, a neutral cream suede, which goes with just about anything.
Ugg New Heights Cozy Clog
Zappos
Every holiday season, one Ugg style is always unavailable. This year, we’re betting on the new platform Cozy Clog. Modeled after the OG clog but with an Ugg edge, this slip-on features a 2-inch stacked heel, a cozy foam footbed, a lightweight EVA outsole, and an Uggplush wool lining. The styling possibilities are endless. Team them with tube socks and sweats, or wear them sockless with your favorite denim. This Ugg version is much more casual than most of the options we’ve featured here, but it’s perfect for anyone who values comfort. (If you love the style but want a more affordable option, check out Rocket Dog’s Fran Clog on Amazon.)
Cezanne Taylor Clogs
Sezane
If open backs are your least favorite clog design, the Cezanne Taylor is for you. The handcrafted shoes are beautiful, with smooth leather, hand-cut wooden soles, and clever buckle ankle straps to keep your feet in place and prevent your shoes from slipping off. Just be careful: the Puppy platform is just under an inch and the heel is 3.3 inches, so they’re on the high side.
Below, we’ll introduce some more comfortable clogs perfect for fall.
