Slipknot’s Syd Wilson is recuperating at home after being hospitalized with “severe” burns following a campfire accident.
In a series of Instagram Live videos posted to his social media accounts yesterday, the DJ and keyboard musician assured fans he was “fine” as he updated viewers on his journey.
“My face exploded,” he said in the first five-minute video. “I’m ok, I’m going to be ok, but I have severe burns on my face and arms.” In the selfie, he showed close-up shots of his “singled” eyebrows, “blistered” mouth and arms, which he said bore the brunt of the flames. “Ouch,” he captioned the video succinctly.
In a statement released on the heavy metal band’s page, Slipknot wrote, “Our brother Sid Wilson was in an accident today and suffered burns all over his body. He is recovering with his family and will be joining us onstage at Rocklahoma next weekend. He thanks you all for your support and we hope to see you soon.”
In Wilson’s first video, medical staff can be seen telling him to take deep breaths. He is fitted with a nasal cannula and told he will have an X-ray to make sure he does not “inhale flames.” In the background, a nurse can be heard asking him where he wants to wear his hospital bracelet. No stranger to accidents, Wilson recalls that he was at the same hospital last New Year when he had his finger amputated.
Wilson appeared to be in good spirits, admitting that his skin was “stinging” badly and he was currently nursing wounds, but added: “Whatever happens, I’ll see you on tour.”
“Apparently I’m allergic to fire,” he jokes, as a woman can be heard yelling in the background, “Get off my Instagram” and “Get off my phone.”
The second video, which is over 10 minutes long, shows Wilson being transported to another facility with a better burn treatment center. In an update, Wilson points to his social media activity as proof that his condition is “not too bad.”
“I know that very well,” he said, adding that he has been burned working on a farm. “Guys, be really careful when you’re dealing with fire. I’ve been there a lot of times.”
“This ain’t gonna stop me,” he continued, joking again, adding that he “got my eyebrows done for free, I got real sideburns,” and had some “cheap Botox” injected into his lips.
“I just want to thank you all for all the well wishes and well wishes,” Wilson concluded in the video. “Y’all, don’t worry about me. I’m OK. I don’t want any of you to get too upset about this, so I’m on Instagram Live just so you all know, ‘I’m here.’ I’m a strong man and I’m OK. I just need to slow down sometimes and trust my inner voice. When you’re a big, brave man, that part of you can get in the way of rational thinking, which is harder than anything else most of the time.”
His partner, Kelly Osbourne, also shared an update in a series of Instagram Stories while on her way to pick Wilson up from the hospital. “He’s still in a lot of pain but doing so much better,” she shared, thanking fans for sending her “sympathies and prayers.”
After tending to Wilson’s wounds, Osbourne shared a video of her sleeping while playing popular songs that include the word “fire.” Her choices included “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, “Firestarter” by The Prodigy, “Great Balls of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis, “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel, and “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele.
The musician posted a selfie today, captioning it, “On my way home.”
