Paramount’s “Smile 2” earned $2.5 million Thursday night at previews starting at 5 p.m. in 3,000 locations, $500,000 more than the 2022 film’s preview numbers. The first Smile opened with $22.6 million and rose to $105.9 million.
Advance sales indicated Smile 2 would go high at the domestic box office this weekend, but perhaps Paramount executives have something to grin about and the sequel will go even higher. . This weekend, Smile 2 will be showing all PLF screens and Imax venues will be showing Warner Bros.’ Joker: Folie à Deux.
“Smile 2” is certified Fresh with an 85% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and 3 1/2 stars and 71% positive on PostTrak’s Fan Departure last night. Latino and Hispanic movie audiences were strong last night at 36%, compared to 40% white, 11% black, and 7% Asian American.
The sequel opens today on 3,619 screens. Smile architect Parker Finn is back for the $28 million sequel. The film stars Aladdin star Naomi Scott as a pop star who strangely sees people grinning on tour.

The Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh romance drama received an audience score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Expectations are high. There are high hopes that this movie will once again revive romance at the box office. The John Crowley-directed title currently has a total of $820,000 in the U.S. and is down to $225,900 after opening in five theaters in New York City and Los Angeles in its first weekend.
Last night, there was a preview of Ketchup Entertainment’s Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis drama “Goodrich.” We’re still waiting for the numbers, but the audience exit rate was an impressive 5 stars, with 93% positive, and turnout was 61% male, 39% female, and 65% over 35. This movie directed by Harry Myers-Shyer has a 68% positive rating from critics.
