Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is already off to a strong start, hitting a 24-hour peak of 134,302 concurrent users. Despite only being playable by players who purchased the Gold and Ultra editions of the game, it’s already off to a strong start, climbing to number 5 overall in the Steam charts.
But it wasn’t a perfect win for the long-awaited sequel. Players, including IGN staff, quickly reported issues connecting to servers, and fans quickly took to X/Twitter and other forums to air their frustrations with the experience.
Please fix your servers. “Joining server” is killing us all. It’s no fun being stuck on “Joining server” after completing a mission. If you close and reopen the game it tells you to redo a mission you completed.

Similarly, while Space Marine 2’s Steam reviews currently stand at “mostly positive,” several fans have complained about a variety of issues, including graphics drivers and a lack of ultrawide support.
Focus Home Entertainment acknowledged the issue in a post on its official website, saying, “We’re aware of the technical issues you’re experiencing with #SpaceMarine2 and apologize for the inconvenience. Our team is currently working on resolving the issue. Please continue to send us your feedback and make sure to read this note about the most common issues.”

The full post lists some of the most common issues, including crashes during the opening cinematic, controller issues, infinite loading, etc. It also states that you don’t need to link your Steam and Epic accounts to play the game, stating that the installation of Epic Online Services was implemented to “support optional cross-play between Steam and Epic players, and to sync friends lists between the two stores.”
Otherwise, we were largely positive in our Space Marine 2 review, writing, “Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a great third-person shooter with a compelling story, fun weapons to use, and a good variety of enemies to use them with. It again borrows a lot of ideas from the Gears of War series, but they’re good ideas and Space Marine 2 manages to make them its own. And while the accompanying Operations PvE mode isn’t enough to draw me back into it at the moment, Space Marine’s deep customization options look promising if supported in a post-launch update as planned. Plus, it’s hard not to be satisfied killing aliens on such a beautiful planet.”
Space Marine 2 is due to launch in its entirety on September 9th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
